Petrol and Diesel from Plastics - Revolutionary Invention from India

A team of 6 scientists in Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) developed a new technology to convert hazardous plastic to petroleum products.

Petrol and Diesel from Plastics - Revolutionary Invention from India

With the sponsorship of Gas Authority of India, (GAIL) nearly 10 year long experiments achieved a breakthrough in developing a "catalysts combination" which converts plastic to either diesel, gasoline or aromatics with LPG a common byproduct.

These petroleum products meet Euro III fuel specifications. The conversion process is totally environmental friendly and no toxic wastes are emitted.

From 1 kg of raw polyolefinic plastic, 650-700 ml petrol with LPG or 850 ml of diesel with LPG or 450-500 ml of aromatics with LPG can be produced.

It is a big achievement of Indian Scientists to produce petroleum products from waste plastics. Definitely, It is going to play a major part  in developing India.
