Union Minister of the State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Mr.K.V. Thomas said that Magnetic Levitation Technology used in Korea could be adopted for Kochi Metro Rail Project.
Maglev Technology (From Magnetic Levitation) where trains run without wheels, would be adopted for Kochi Metro Rail Project.
The use of Maglev Technology make Kochi Metro project cheaper by about 20 percent, Mr. K.V. Thomas said. Also the system in Korea needed slimmer pillars than what was now planned for Kochi project.
As we consider the narrow roads along which metro rail is being planned, the construction would be much easier in Kochi.
However, more discussions with the planning commission regarding this topic is expected over the coming days, Mr. Thomas added.
